We are independent doctors of optometry — not Sam’s Club and not LensCrafters. High blood sugar can leak and grow fragile vessels in the retina. Annual (sometimes more frequent) dilated or imaged exams are part of diabetes care. We look, document, and refer to retina when treatment such as injections or laser is needed.
